Gandhi Hill is considered as a monument of Indian Independence struggle and pays
homage to Father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi.
The Gandhi Hill Memorial has a stone slab with inscriptions of Gandhi
quotations.
After independence it was decided by Government to establish
Gandhi Memorial places.
Famous sculptor Sri
Nandalal Bose made this Memorial Sthupam.
On 6 October 1968, a stupa 52 ft (16 m) tall was
unveiled by former President of India Dr.Zakir Hussain
Sri KL Rao who contributed a lot for this venture established
library on the Hills.
Lecture Hall also consrtucted.
There used to be a toy train running around the stupa which
used to give clear view of Vijayawada. .
The planiterium at the Hill is unique.
Gandhijis 11 pledges are seen on the Sthupa.
1.Non – Voilence, 2.Truth 3. Brahmacharya 4.
Fearlessness 5. Swadeshi 6. Removal of untouchibility 7. Dignity
of labour.8. Control of senses .9. Astheyam 10. Aparigraham
11. Equality of all religions,.
Other places to see in Vijayawada include Kanaka Durga Temple vijayawada , Prakasam Barrage, Undavalli Caves, kondapalli Fort, Mangalagiri Panakala swamy, Gunadala Church, Bhavani Islands to name a few.
Since Gandhi Hill stands adjoining the Vijayawada
Railway Station, Which means commutation and infrastructure are in place, Continuous Efforts can lead to developing into big Tourist Spot.
